E3 Camp—Empowering Excellence Through Exploration - FREE summer camp for middle school students
Summer 2021 Wish List
Picture
Founded in 2018, E3 camp was created to introduce students of color in middle and high school to STEM fields through hands-on learning, presentations, and field trips.  The camp is free of charge.  The Camp co-founders are Anissa McLendon and Lee Moavenzadeh.  Due to the health crisis the camp had to be cancelled for this summer.  However, the students were not forgotten. On Friday, July 3, 2020 each of the 27 students scheduled for this year’s camp received a box filled with such food items as rice, crackers, soup, peanut butter, jelly along with a tote bag and grocery bag of school supplies.  Many thanks to Anissa for spearheading this effort.  Plans are being made for 2021 Camp.  If you are interested in assisting as a volunteer or making a financial donation, contact Anissa and read more below.

E3 Camp—Empowering Excellence Through Exploration - FREE summer camp for middle school students

Three years ago, the Empowering Excellence Through Exploration Camp (E3 Camp) was established by Anissa McLendon with assistance from Lee Moavenzadeh to introduce and expose students of color to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) related activities, hands-on experimental activities, art skills and informative field trips.

Another goal of this free camp was to provide opportunities for students to become productive citizens in the 21st century workforce. Presently, African Americans make up only 8% the STEM workforce. It is more important than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, compile, and evaluate evidence, and make sense of data. They felt that by exposing students of color to these opportunities will begin the journey for a more level playing field.

The pandemic kept them from having an in-person camp in 2020. However, they were able to get donations of school supplies and food to distribute to students who would have attended the camp.

Plans are under way for the 2021 Camp. The camp is free and operates on donations and is staffed by volunteers. I know that you get solicitations from worthy non-profits for very good causes. I hope you will consider a donation to E3 Camp financially or from the list of needed supplies. No donation is too small. If you have
time, you may want to volunteer during the camp.
