E3 Camp—Empowering Excellence Through Exploration - FREE summer camp for middle school students
Summer 2021 Wish List
Summer 2021 Wish List
Founded in 2018, E3 camp was created to introduce students of color in middle and high school to STEM fields through hands-on learning, presentations, and field trips. The camp is free of charge. The Camp co-founders are Anissa McLendon and Lee Moavenzadeh. Due to the health crisis the camp had to be cancelled for this summer. However, the students were not forgotten. On Friday, July 3, 2020 each of the 27 students scheduled for this year’s camp received a box filled with such food items as rice, crackers, soup, peanut butter, jelly along with a tote bag and grocery bag of school supplies. Many thanks to Anissa for spearheading this effort. Plans are being made for 2021 Camp. If you are interested in assisting as a volunteer or making a financial donation, please contact Anissa.
E3 Camp—Empowering Excellence Through Exploration - FREE summer camp for middle school students
Sister Anissa McLendon is a Teacher's Assistant in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City School system. She and a friend, Lee Moavenzadeh, who operates Kamal Academy, saw a need for middle school kids to be exposed to STEM programs. The original one-week camp in the summer of 2018 for 15 students grew into a three-week camp for 30 students in 2019. It is entitled E3 Camp—Empowering Excellence Through Exploration. There is no charge for students to attend. E3 has received some funding from school system as well as space in Glenwood Elementary. This will only cover a fraction of the operating expenses. Confirmed presenters include doctors, researchers, local fire department personnel and a least one military pilot who are coming free. Activities will include class instruction and field trips (one will be to NC A&T State University) which the students in the first camp loved. The camp is short of funds to cover the whole three weeks and community donations are needed to ensure camp goes on. Questions should be directed to Anissa or Lee. Sponsored by, Kamal Academy, an interfaith S.T.E.A.M. school For more information, contact:
